Ultra Weekend Recap — January 28

Our Ultra Weekend Recap has plenty of results from races in Southern California, Texas and Florida, so let’s get down to it.

Down in Malibu, California, on Saturday, the Sean O’Brien 50k saw Catherine Leclair take the win in 5:29:44 – the fifth-fastest time on the course and an eighth-place overall finish. Andrea Faber finished second in 6:51:03 and Annie Oppenheim took home third in 7:04:02. For the men, Jeff Colt came in first in 4:06:02 – the second-fastest time in the race’s history. Clint Anders came in second in 4:32:59 and third went to Mark Payan in 4:37:59. Find full results here. In the 50-mile event, Walter Escalante took home the win in 9:05:10, with Adrian Lazar Adler taking second in 10:09:28. The final spot on the podium went to Dan Lacy in 10:33:35. In the women’s race, Barbara Thomson brought home the win and fourth-place overall finish in 10:37:37. Mathilde Giroud pulled in the second-place finish in 11:26:30 and third was Deike Peters in 11:57:33. Full results here.

In the 100k, Kenzie Macphail won in the women’s race, along with a fourth-place overall finish, in 11:59:20. In second was Mallory Servais in 13:28:45 and just a second behind was Megan Zdancewic in third, in 13:28:46. For the men, Max Jolliffe took the win in 10:00:01. Ian Sharman came in second in 11:24:17 and Joe Ellefson came in third in 11:57:02. Full results here.

Across the country in DeBary, Florida, at the Monroe Cross Trail 50-miler, Eric Finn took the win in the men’s race in 7:43:05. In second, 61-year-old Dan Kendra finished in 8:46:42. Third place went to Jeremi McGee in 9:52:39. In the women’s race, Michelle Bischoff won and finished in third overall with a time of 8:53:23. Jessica Hemesath came in second in 10:02:12 and Laura Lundardi finished third in 10:26:44. In the accompanying 50k, Katrina Pelican won the women’s race and took second overall in 4:59:02. Second place went to Fortune Hansen in 5:23:10 and third on the podium was Alison Wiedmann in 5:44:11. Both women also finished fourth and fifth overall, respectively. In the men’s race, Eric Huffman finished first in 4:07:13. Kyle Schmidt took home second male in 5:19:32 and Charles Henri Elvira Martin was third in 5:49:27. In North Texas hill country on Saturday at the Wildcatter Ultra 50k in Graham, Texas, Pieter Steenkamp took the win in 4:37:01. Second place in the men’s race went to 17-year-old Vineel Kondapalli in 5:47:05 and third on the podium was Eric Zimmerman in 5:55:19. In the women’s race, Katherine Crouse won and finished second overall in 5:44:47. Full results here.
